Creative Interior Partitions That Go Beyond Functionality

The Design Defender Showcase series features products from leading manufacturers in the design industry, providing a rich source of inspiration for professional designers and design enthusiasts alike, helping them stay up-to-date with the latest trends and discover fresh ideas for ongoing projects.

Our showcase series kicks off with a focus on clever and visually striking interior partitions, which, when done well, can become a defining visual element of spaces. Their careful placement allows for shifting functions and ambiances in residential, as well as public and commercial spaces. With a variety of materials, colors, and styles of by a range of top brands available for browsing in our product library, interior partitions offer an aesthetically and practical addition to any interior design scheme where flexibility is key. We have rounded up the most unique collections that are sure to add visual interest to spaces while providing privacy or improving the functionality of large open spaces.

Screen © Lapalma

Francesco Rota’s SCREEN collection for Lapalma, allows for the creation of spaces within spaces—defining smaller zones within a larger open space with a series of modular partitions. Sleek and minimalist in design, the screens provide privacy and flexibility of spatial organisation for commercial spaces, without sacrificing visual appeal or the feeling of openness. For maximum customizability, the screens come in different shapes, sizes and colours, and are available in both a tubular design and a sound-absorbing fabric version, which, when superimposed, create a striking visual effect.

Swing © Mogg

Italian designer Alessandro Di Prisco references the iconic works of Carlo Scarpa and Leonardo da Vinci with his rounded Swing screen designed for Mogg. Composed of a mesh metal circle anchored to a cylindrical base in Carrara marble, black Marquina or concrete, the elements allow the screen to rotate ninety degrees. This unique design renders the Swing screen both a sculptural focal point and a functional room divider.

Tramonto a New York © Cassina

Cassina caught our eye with a screen design that reflects the bold identity of its maker. With Tramonto a New York Screen, iconic designer Gaetano Pesce continues his lifelong interest in experimentation with materials, textures, and forms. He recreates the skyline of the city that never sleeps by layering coloured resin to produce the striking hues of building facades. The complexity and handcrafted nature of the process guarantees the uniqueness of each of the bright and playful screens.

Colony Screen © Miniforms

Milan-based studio Skrivo draws attention to an often-overlooked element in interior design with the design of the Colony Screen for Miniforms, which displays a strong and sculptural presence. In designing a striking and theatrical element that takes advantage of the transparent properties of cane, Skrivo poetically dedicates Colony to “the shyer among us”.

Grisella and Lumina backdrops ©Paola Lenti

The mobile backdrops produced by Paola Lenti inject vibrant and dynamic qualities to all types of spaces. From sparkling spheres to Rope cord—a Paola Lenti signature material—as well as round brass discs, the colourful, movable backdrops are made by hand and available in custom dimensions and colours. In combination with the brand’s furniture pieces in equally vibrant colours and cutting-edge materials, harmonious and comprehensive environments can be created.

Impera ©+ADD

Preserving the unity of a space is the core idea behind the Impera collection by +ADD. The collection features a refined modular suspension structure made of aluminium pipes, with integrated lighting. Visual interest is created with the glass “sails” that, dispersed among the pipes, bring dynamic qualities to an otherwise uniform modular structure.
